Today it was great to see the parents in the classroom. Thank you to everyone who attended. It was especially good to see you all participate so wholeheartedly. It was good to have discussions during the break. I hope that I answered your questions well enough. If there are any further questions, please contact me because I would like to develop open relationships with you all.
This week we continued with the inquiry into migration. There was a link with science as we began to see that weather conditions can be a reason why people have to leave their homes. At this point we have confirmed our present understanding by sharing what we already know. This led to us discussing the movement of the earth around the sun. We decided that the best way for this to happen was for us to get up and use out bodies to show the spin and rotation. In this way a few misunderstanding came to light, and so we were able to talk and clarify the facts.
The unit of inquiry has also linked with our reading. We've spent time on stories which illustrate the issues of having to leave ones home. The focus has been thinking as we read, rather than just speeding through without engaging in some questioning. Some of us do tend to read as a racing rabbit, but we're learning ways to slow down and really make sense of the text.
The new world map on the wall has been used a lot for finding the countries that we read about. Each of us has a country we are studying. As the weeks go on we'll be finding out about the migration issues faced by the citizens of that country. I encourage everyone to use television news programmes to see what is going on in the world.
