Year 6 Term 1 Week 3 Blog

In English class the students worked in guided reading groups this week. One group will be reading "The Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen and the second group will be reading Charlotte's Web by E.B. White.  In addition, the students work on their assembly and practiced performing their skit in preparation. In Maths class the students continued their unit on rounding, estimation and place value. The students are beginning to realise that there is a close link between these three concepts. This week the students took part in both group activities as well as individual learning activities. In UOI the students have focused on the "sorting out" stage of the inquiry cycle to determine which information they will be using in their presentations on "culture" that they have been researching about. Year 6 Term 1 Week 2 Blog

This week in English class the students have been creating stories by using their spelling words of the week. The students worked on these stories by following the steps of the writing process. They also had the opportunity to present this stories to their peers in class. As part of a grammar activity the students worked on building their skills in subject verb agreement. In Maths class the students worked on place value, rounding numbers and estimation. Each group worked at different levels according to their skill level and ability. The yellow group moved into word problems including rounding and estimation while the green group worked on identifying positive and negative numbers with decimals. Year 6 Introductory Letter Dear Parents,            My name is Mark Abbadessa. I will be your child's Year 6 Teacher. Ms. Snook will be our classroom Teaching Assistant for this school year. We are both delighted to have the opportunity to work with  your child during this school year. This will be an exciting school year for the students as they will  have the opportunity to work on their PYP Student Exhibition projects which will be a new process that our school is trying to develop to help students prepare to enter into the MYP program in the  near future.  To give you a little background information about myself, I have held various teaching roles over the past 10 years of my teaching career.
