Year 6 Term 1 Week 5 Blog

In English class the students shared their written stories and current event reflections with their peers. The students also worked on guided reading and took turns reading aloud to their group mates. Expectations of writing work was shared with all students to help them produce high quality writing pieces.

In Maths class we wrapped up our unit on problem solving this week. The students worked in their groups to prepare for an assessment that took place on Thursday to monitor student knowledge and progress in problem solving skills.

In UOI class the students were introduced to the Central Idea that will be used for the Exhibition. Both the Year 6 & 7 class came together to begin formulating ideas for their projects. Both classes will be working closely together for this event. As part of their current UOI the students have been peer assessing each other's presentations on cultures.

Below are some photos from our field trip today to the Thai-Chinese Cultural Centre. The students had a wonderful time exploring traditional Thai-Chinese Culture and learning about Chinese tea ceremonies.

Year 6 Term 3 Week 6 Blog

English This week in English class the children worked on building their inferencing skills. The children were required to look at various slides and quotes and then respond to the inferencing questions relating to those slides and quotes. In addition the children received a list of 100 fun indoor activities that they could choose from to build various skills. For next week the children will work on reading different articles and will respond to their assigned questions. Maths In Maths class this week the children have been working on activities relating to converting decimals, percentages and fractions including word problems. For next week the learners will be working on fun problem solving skills that requires them to solve the maths mysteries. Geography geniuses

This week we have been continuing on with our unit on migration. In order to do this properly we need to know the world map well. We have given a fair amount of time to learning the names of the oceans and continents. The most enjoyable activity was using Google earth to find the places we are learning about. We even used 'Google Glasses' to watch 3D clips of far off places too. In our English lessons we have been reading about the migration experiences of young people. Our purpose was to do 'active reading'. This means that we have to think, take notes and talk to someone was we read. In this way, we understand the text more deeply. On Wednesday Our P.E teacher came to share his migration experience with us. He is Brazilian and taught us some basic facts about his country. It developed into a whole geography lesson about Brazil. OUR FIRST WEEK AS YEAR 6

We Are Year Six Welcome to Year 6. Here is our first photograph together. Why were we all smiling so much that day? Well, there are so many reasons. Firstly, we were glad to welcome Moriah, our new classmate from Idaho. We're looking forward to getting to know her more and finding out about where she has come from. Secondly, we realise that we are fortunate enough to have a large classroom with a beautiful view over green fields. Another reason for the smiles is that we also had the opportunity to arrange the room as we wanted it. A third reason is this: - Yes, we've enjoyed our first week together.
