Year 6 Term 1 Week 15

This week in English class the students worked on holiday related projects and learning tasks. The students also worked on writing informational texts based on current events taking place around the world.  In Maths class the students worked on identifying 2 demential shapes and identifying missing angles. The students also worked on graphing numbers on an X,Y coordinate grid. In UOI and PSPE class this week the students worked on an activity to share their feeling and emotions. The students began researching information about famous inventors throughout history. The students have created biography cards for these famous inventors. For Science the students began learning about the human skeletal system. 

Year 6 Term 1 Week 14 Blog

In English class this week the students worked on creating a play to perform during the Christmas event that will be held on the evening of December 12th. The students are very excited about this play and will be happy to perform it for parents at the Christmas event. On that evening students should wear clothing that has some green or red in it or clothing that could be worn at a Christmas event.   In Maths class the students have wrapped up their unit on Statistics. The students took an assessment to assess how well they understood how to compute mean, median, mode and range. For the remainder of this term the students will be doing a cumulative review of all of the concepts that they have learned during term 1.   In UOI class the students continue to document their progress and narrow down their ideas for the student exhibition project. Year 6 Term 1 Week 13 Blog

In English class the students have been writing about the topic of the human circulatory system. The students had to research about the topic and write a reflection about what the main components are of the circulatory system. In Maths class the students worked on statistics. The students are learning about ratios, probability and how to find the mean, median, mode and range of a set of numbers. The students will also cover this concept next week before being assessed on it. In UOI class the students continued progressing with their student exhibition projects. The students are in the "Going Further Stage" of the inquiry cycle and have been encouraged to begin creating some models and designs for their projects.

Year 6 Term 1 Week 12 Blog

In English class this week the students worked on creating a cause and effect essay on the topic of deforestation. The students learned that this is a global issue affecting rain forests and the environment. We also had some parents visit our classroom during our lesson on deforestation. In UOI class the students have been meeting with their mentors for the student exhibition projects. The students have been given the new checklist of things that they should be working on for their journals and research. The students were encouraged to begin developing some sample models that they can share with the class. In Mathematics class the students have been working on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions with like and unlike denominators.
