Scientific Inquiry

What does a scientist do? This is the questions we have been considering this week. The answer is:
observe, draw, measure, sort into groups, compare, design tests and, most of all, they ask questions about things that interest them . This is what we have been doing this week. Each of us had a living thing that interested us and we did a lot of the things that a scientist would do. This personal inquiry time was very valuable and we all found a lot of pleasure in studying the living that interests us.

As well as that, we have also been learning about how to plan a great story. We took time to plan the introduction carefully, so that the setting and characters are really well described. These are going to take a while to write because we want them to be the very best they can be before we publish them

This weekend, students are asked to carry out a simple experiment at home, something relating to their little living thing. Please support by adding photographs to the Google document where possible. It would be great to see what everyone is doing this weekend.

Year 6 Term 3 Week 6 Blog

English This week in English class the children worked on building their inferencing skills. The children were required to look at various slides and quotes and then respond to the inferencing questions relating to those slides and quotes. In addition the children received a list of 100 fun indoor activities that they could choose from to build various skills. For next week the children will work on reading different articles and will respond to their assigned questions. Maths In Maths class this week the children have been working on activities relating to converting decimals, percentages and fractions including word problems. For next week the learners will be working on fun problem solving skills that requires them to solve the maths mysteries. Geography geniuses

This week we have been continuing on with our unit on migration. In order to do this properly we need to know the world map well. We have given a fair amount of time to learning the names of the oceans and continents. The most enjoyable activity was using Google earth to find the places we are learning about. We even used 'Google Glasses' to watch 3D clips of far off places too. In our English lessons we have been reading about the migration experiences of young people. Our purpose was to do 'active reading'. This means that we have to think, take notes and talk to someone was we read. In this way, we understand the text more deeply. On Wednesday Our P.E teacher came to share his migration experience with us. He is Brazilian and taught us some basic facts about his country. It developed into a whole geography lesson about Brazil. We learned about how big Brazil is! Mr. Xavi told us about the Amazon jungle. we had so many questions to ask him. ...

OUR FIRST WEEK AS YEAR 6

We Are Year Six Welcome to Year 6. Here is our first photograph together. Why were we all smiling so much that day? Well, there are so many reasons. Firstly, we were glad to welcome Moriah, our new classmate from Idaho. We're looking forward to getting to know her more and finding out about where she has come from. Secondly, we realise that we are fortunate enough to have a large classroom with a beautiful view over green fields. Another reason for the smiles is that we also had the opportunity to arrange the room as we wanted it. A third reason is this: - Yes, we've enjoyed our first week together.
