Year 6 Term 1 Week 11 Blog

In English class this week the student worked on writing stories which included words from their weekly spelling lists. The students worked through the writing process to plan, write, edit and revise their stories. The students had the opportunity to share their stories with the class. The students also presented on their passions to other students from different classes. In UOI class this week the students worked on completing the tasks listed on their Exhibition checklist. The students have begun meeting with their mentors to help guide them through the process. The students have been updating their exhibition journals on Google Drive to keep on track and follow the timeline. We also had Ms. Moo and Ms. Ann as guest speakers to discuss how they were able to develop businesses. In Maths class the students have started a new concept this week. Year 6 Term 1 Week 10

In English class this week the students have been preparing for their presentations on "passions" that they will presenting to other classes at UDIS. We also had a guest speaker come to speak with the Year 6 &7 class today about his passion of coding. The students learned about the effort that goes into creating video games and robots. In Maths class the students have been introduced to the concept of "Statistics" and how to find the mean, median and mode of number samples. In UOI class the students have been working on updating their Exhibition journals. The students are beginning to explore and gain a deeper knowledge about their passions and how they are choosing to focus on their projects.

Year 6 Term 1 Week 9 Blog

            This week in English class the student took part in the writing process. The students were given several writing prompts to choose from. Some of the writing prompts consisted of questions such as; " Would you rather spend your free time alone or with your friends?, How have you been a positive influence on the community?, What are your greatest aspirations in life?" Students were encourage to think sensibly when responding to these writing prompts.        In UOI class this week the students spent time creating their own business model plans. They focused on the type of business they want to create and how it can help the community in some way. Year 6 Term 1 Week 8 Blog

In English class the students have worked on enhancing their writing skills. This week when the students were writing they were asked to use "adverbials" within their writing. For example, the students use phrases such as: (on the other hand, the opposing view, similarly, in contrast, although, another possibility, and alternatively). In UOI class the students have presented their final projects for Unit 1. The students have made some major improvements on these projects in the past two weeks to meet the expectations that had been set for them. Additionally, the students had the opportunity to share their projects with their parents as a celebration of their work. In Maths class we have begun a new unit on multi-digit multiplication and division. This week the Maths groups have changed according to the ability levels of the students based on these concepts. The students will be working on these concepts for the next two weeks.
