Year 6 Term 1 Week 11 Blog

In English class this week the student worked on writing stories which included words from their weekly spelling lists. The students worked through the writing process to plan, write, edit and revise their stories. The students had the opportunity to share their stories with the class. The students also presented on their passions to other students from different classes.

In UOI class this week the students worked on completing the tasks listed on their Exhibition checklist. The students have begun meeting with their mentors to help guide them through the process. The students have been updating their exhibition journals on Google Drive to keep on track and follow the timeline. We also had Ms. Moo and Ms. Ann as guest speakers to discuss how they were able to develop businesses.

In Maths class the students have started a new concept this week. The students started to learn about fractions and how to add & subtract fractions with the same and different denominators.

On our field trip relating to the student exhibition the students had a wonderful time learning about some of the different business models that have helped grow different passions that the shop owners had. The students are grateful for the help and support the community has given us to help guide our learners for their exhibition projects.

Year 6 Term 3 Week 6 Blog

English This week in English class the children worked on building their inferencing skills. The children were required to look at various slides and quotes and then respond to the inferencing questions relating to those slides and quotes. In addition the children received a list of 100 fun indoor activities that they could choose from to build various skills. For next week the children will work on reading different articles and will respond to their assigned questions. Maths In Maths class this week the children have been working on activities relating to converting decimals, percentages and fractions including word problems. For next week the learners will be working on fun problem solving skills that requires them to solve the maths mysteries. Geography geniuses

This week we have been continuing on with our unit on migration. In order to do this properly we need to know the world map well. We have given a fair amount of time to learning the names of the oceans and continents. The most enjoyable activity was using Google earth to find the places we are learning about. We even used 'Google Glasses' to watch 3D clips of far off places too. In our English lessons we have been reading about the migration experiences of young people. Our purpose was to do 'active reading'. This means that we have to think, take notes and talk to someone was we read. In this way, we understand the text more deeply. On Wednesday Our P.E teacher came to share his migration experience with us. He is Brazilian and taught us some basic facts about his country. It developed into a whole geography lesson about Brazil. OUR FIRST WEEK AS YEAR 6

We Are Year Six Welcome to Year 6. Here is our first photograph together. Why were we all smiling so much that day? Well, there are so many reasons. Firstly, we were glad to welcome Moriah, our new classmate from Idaho. We're looking forward to getting to know her more and finding out about where she has come from. Secondly, we realise that we are fortunate enough to have a large classroom with a beautiful view over green fields. Another reason for the smiles is that we also had the opportunity to arrange the room as we wanted it. A third reason is this: - Yes, we've enjoyed our first week together.
