In our assembly this week. we learned about safeguarding and the importance of online safety for children. Please take a moment to look at this presentation and talk with your child about this issue.

The children have made factsheets about some form of international celebration. They are on display in our classroom.

What makes an ideal teacher? Y5/6 have been thinking about this issue. Do any UDIS teachers show some of the attributes requested by your children?

We have been learning about subtraction with borrowing, exchange and re-grouping. A connection to our English learning is that these three terms are synonyms. Most children are now feeling confident about this.

We have just begun a new Unit of Inquiry which focuses on the theme of MIGRATION.

Human migration is a response to challenges, risks and opportunities.

 - The reasons why people migrate (Causation).
  -  Historical migration(Perspective).

This week, we have been playing on the xylophone and percussion instruments. We had fun improvising rhythms while listening to "A musical Journey"

Year 6 Term 3 Week 6 Blog

English This week in English class the children worked on building their inferencing skills. The children were required to look at various slides and quotes and then respond to the inferencing questions relating to those slides and quotes. In addition the children received a list of 100 fun indoor activities that they could choose from to build various skills. Geography geniuses

This week we have been continuing on with our unit on migration. In order to do this properly we need to know the world map well. We have given a fair amount of time to learning the names of the oceans and continents. The most enjoyable activity was using Google earth to find the places we are learning about.  We even used 'Google Glasses' to watch 3D clips of far off places too. In our English lessons we have been reading about the migration experiences of young people. Our purpose was to do 'active reading'. This means that we have to think, take notes and talk to someone was we read. In this way, we understand the text more deeply. On Wednesday Our P.E teacher came to share his migration experience with us. He is Brazilian and taught us some basic facts about his country. It developed into a whole geography lesson about Brazil. We learned about how big Brazil is! Mr. Xavi told us about the Amazon jungle. we had so many questions to ask him. ...

OUR FIRST WEEK AS YEAR 6

We Are Year Six Welcome to Year 6. Here is our first photograph together. Why were we all smiling so much that day? Well, there are so many reasons. Firstly, we were glad to welcome Moriah, our new classmate from Idaho. We're looking forward to getting to know her more and finding out about where she has come from.  Secondly, we realise that we are fortunate enough to have a large classroom with a beautiful view over green fields. Another reason for the smiles is that we also had the opportunity to arrange the room as we wanted it. A third reason is this: - Yes, we've enjoyed our first week together. Please continue following our blog. It will be updated weekly and contain things to make you smile too!
