Year 6 Term 1 Week 7

In English class the students worked on persuasive writing this week. The students had to write a story to try and persuade their audience about the benefits of having a good house pet. The students worked on creating three arguments within their writing to show the benefits of having this house pet and which type of animal make the best house pet in their opinions. In Maths class the students continued their unit with addition, subtraction and multiplication of numbers with decimals. The students also had their unit assessment this week on this concept to assess for their knowledge. In UOI class the students have been working on making improvements to their presentations that they will be presenting next week as part of their summative assessment for Unit 1. The students have been following a checklist to include any information that they have missed in their presentations so they can meet the expectations for this project.

Year 6 Term 1 Week 6

This week in English class the students focused on proofreading skills. The students worked in pairs to peer assess each other's work.  The students also worked on guided reading to read the next couple of chapters in their guided reading books. In addition, the students were introduced to some new online reading resources. In Maths class each group has been working on computation of numbers with decimals. The yellow group is working on multiplication and division of numbers with decimals while the green group and Ms. Charlie's group are working on addition and subtraction of numbers with decimals. In UOI the students are wrapping up their final projects for Unit 1 and with begin practicing their presentations to prepare for their whole class presentation. Moreover, the Year 6 & 7 classes worked together this week to create groups and ideas for their exhibition projects.

Year 6 Term 1 Week 5 Blog

In English class the students shared their written stories and current event reflections with their peers. The students also worked on guided reading and took turns reading aloud to their group mates. Expectations of writing work was shared with all students to help them produce high quality writing pieces. In Maths class we wrapped up our unit on problem solving this week. The students worked in their groups to prepare for an assessment that took place on Thursday to monitor student knowledge and progress in problem solving skills. In UOI class the students were introduced to the Central Idea that will be used for the Exhibition. Both the Year 6 & 7 class came together to begin formulating ideas for their projects. Both classes will be working closely together for this event. As part of their current UOI the students have been peer assessing each other's presentations on cultures. Year 6 Term 1 Week 4 Blog

In English class the students shared their spelling stories with their peers. The students have been creating stories to share in class. For guided reading each groups continued to make prediction and read The Hatchet  or  Charlotte's Web. In UOI class the students are narrowing down the information they have found regarding their selected countries to demonstrate the knowledge they have gained on the culture that is displayed within that country. The students have been making steady progress in designing their presentations which they will be presenting to the class in the coming weeks. In Maths class we have began our unit on problem solving. The students are enjoying the challenge of each word problem while working in their groups. On Wednesday mornings we will now also have Ms. Charlie assisting in Maths class to work with some of our learners.
