Year 6 Term 2 Week 8 Blog

English  This week in English class the students have taken the PM Benchmark assessments to determine their new reading levels. In addition, the students worked on their guided reading books and reflected on the events taking place in their books. As part of PSPE this week the students wrote about accepting diversity in their lives and accepting children who may be different to them.  For next week the students will be working on projects related to international week.  UOI  In UOI class the students are continuing to work on their Unit 4 projects. The students are now working on creating e-books and documenting their research findings into their e-books. Year 6 Term 2 Week 7 Blog

English  In English class this week the learners worked on their 1/2 term writing assessments. The students also worked on their guided reading books and will be writing reflections about what they have read so far in these books. The students will continue to make predications next week about the books they are reading. The students will also work on building paragraphs as part of their writing tasks next week. UOI  In UOI class the learners continued working on their checklists relating to biodiversity and human/animal conflicts. The learners are now in the sorting stage of the inquiry cycle and will continue to research to find solutions for these animal/human conflict as we move into next week.  Maths In Maths class this week we wrapped up our unit on solving for areas of shapes. Year 6 Term 2 Week 6 Blog

English In English class the learners worked in small groups to write a narrative story that they could then role play and act out for their peers. The learners also began reading in their groups to begin a new guided reading book. For next week the students will be working on learning different forms of poetry. Maths In Maths class this week the learners began working on new concepts. This unit will carry into next week before they are assessed on these skills next Thursday.  Green Group:  Calculate the area of parallelograms and triangles. English In English class the students are working on reading articles relating to their UOI topic for Unit 4. The students are also working on writing informational texts relating to challenges that people face around the world when living close to animal habitats. For next week the students will continue to research and reflect on conflicts society has when living close to wildlife.  Maths   In Maths class this week we are wrapping up our unit based on the following concepts:  Green Group: Number and Place Value Describe and extend number sequences including those with multiplication and division steps, inconsistent steps, alternating steps and those where the step size is a decimal.
