Reflection

As we come to the end of this unit of inquiry on migration we are looking back at all that we have learned. At the start of the unit each of us had to explain what we knew about migration. The explanations were very short. At that time we knew very little. There really wasn't much to say.
However, this week we wonder how we can begin to share all that we have learned! This is our task now, to explain to the teacher what we understand about migration. We have to discuss:

  • the reasons why people migrate
  • an example of mass migration happening right now
  • an historical example of migration

As well as the explicit teaching and learning during this unit, several other things have been covered too: how to write a blog,  how to comment on another's blog, how to give polite advice about improving one's work, the location of asian countries on the world map and we've been asked to make an effort to watch some new programmes with adults and ask questions about what is happening in the world.

In whatever we learn about it is important to understand why we are learning it. When this was discussed with the students, initially their reasoning was patchy. Today they are at a place where they know that as a PYP student we have to develop our capacity to care. The intention is that students will develop a caring attitude towards the suffering that goes on around them, Eventually, as they mature in this way of thinking they will be able to consider what kind of action they might take to address some of the suffering they see around them

  1. My personal view is that I absolutely agree with the topic. It helps my son to think about the migrants in the past, what happened with them and reason why they leaved or moved. In addition, he was interested to figure it out the local migration that is closer him. He interviewed a few persons who involed migrants and migration.
I love seeing him to study among this topic experience.
    Thank you

  2. We asked our Bua what did she learn from migration topic?

She said people migrated because of war, volcano explosion, earthquake and etc.

She told us that teacher opened the video from youtube. She saw many people moved to different locations. People jumped from the border to the water, jumped from their ship to the ocean. Some people died because it was so dangerous. They did not have enough foods and drinking water. Bua tried to speak and explain all of these in English, which is good.

Apart from this, Bua learned how to give her advice or comments to the others politely. She showed us what she wrote to Anfield and what Anfield gave comments back to her.

Bua is enthusiastic about the advices, which she gets from her classmates.

    Thank you for the blog.
    Bua’s Mommy.
