Year 6 Term 1 Week 16 Blog

In English class this week the students worked on writing and creating a story based off of a picture prompt relating to a winter scene. The students shared these stories by reading them aloud to the class. The students also worked on proofreading their work to check for proper sentence structure and grammar within their writing. Furthermore, the students worked on improving their performance of "Sara Finds Christmas" for next week's Christmas event.

In Maths class we wrapped up our unit on Geometry this week. The students took an assessment on solving for the missing angles of each shape. Next week, we will begin our cumulative review of some of the concepts that have been covered throughout term 1.

In UOI class we continued exploring different inventors throughout history and reflected on how impactful some of these inventions have been in society. The students also worked on learning about the human skeletal system as part of our science unit to learn how the bones are structured in our bodies.

Term 3 Wb 13th June

We have now reached the end of our school year and survived the challenges of Covid19 restrictions and online learning. It was really great to return to face to face learning on campus. For our final blog, we have asked the children to choose one photograph from this year that they feel is memorable. Term 3 Wb 6th June

Our Journey. We are now approaching the final week of our school year. End of Unit

This week we came to the end of our unit of inquiry on cultural beliefs and values. Back in August we had very little understanding about how culture impacts beliefs and values. However, as the weeks went by we engaged in many learning activities. The first of these was interviewing teachers to ask for their input on a definition of culture. We went on to watch mini-documentaries, read several information books and speak to people who could teach us about their culture. As a concluding activity, we came together as a class to produce a joint video which describes some essential points of cultures which we are interested in. This was an exercise in collaborating on a project and exercising social skills. As you can imagine, there was a lot of research to do, and so we had a good opportunity to put into practice all we have been learning about how to conduct research.
