Year 6 Term 2 Week 12 Blog

We have now completed week 2 of our virtual learning sessions. This week I would like to commend the learners for their hard work and for their engagement in our virtual learning lessons. They continue to grow in confidence using Google Classroom, Flipgrid and other resources. The children have been sharing some videos and photos of their work with me and I have attached a few to this blog for the parents to see. For any Flipgrid videos parents will have to ask their child to login to their accounts to view the videos.

In English this week the children worked on different reading and writing activities. They completed a unit on building their skills in grammar. For next week the learners will continue working on similar activities to build their writing and reading comprehension skills. The children have also been assigned to at least 20 minutes of independent reading each day.

In UOI class the learners continued to research and build their knowledge on human migration that is taking place around the world. Towards the end of this week the children were assigned to a group project where they are working together to complete 11 different tasks relating to human migration. This will be an excellent opportunity for the learners to develop their social skills while taking part in virtual learning.

In Maths class the learners have completed their unit on problem solving in the beginning of the week. They have also took part in 4 different activities dealing with multi-digit multiplication and subtractions of numbers with decimals. Next week the learners will begin working on a new concept.

Year 6 Term 3 Week 6 Blog

English This week in English class the children worked on building their inferencing skills. The children were required to look at various slides and quotes and then respond to the inferencing questions relating to those slides and quotes. In addition the children received a list of 100 fun indoor activities that they could choose from to build various skills. For next week the children will work on reading different articles and will respond to their assigned questions. Maths In Maths class this week the children have been working on activities relating to converting decimals, percentages and fractions including word problems. For next week the learners will be working on fun problem solving skills that requires them to solve the maths mysteries. Geography geniuses

This week we have been continuing on with our unit on migration. In order to do this properly we need to know the world map well. We have given a fair amount of time to learning the names of the oceans and continents. The most enjoyable activity was using Google earth to find the places we are learning about. We even used 'Google Glasses' to watch 3D clips of far off places too. In our English lessons we have been reading about the migration experiences of young people. Our purpose was to do 'active reading'. This means that we have to think, take notes and talk to someone was we read. In this way, we understand the text more deeply. On Wednesday Our P.E teacher came to share his migration experience with us. He is Brazilian and taught us some basic facts about his country. It developed into a whole geography lesson about Brazil. OUR FIRST WEEK AS YEAR 6

We Are Year Six Welcome to Year 6. Here is our first photograph together. Why were we all smiling so much that day? Well, there are so many reasons. Firstly, we were glad to welcome Moriah, our new classmate from Idaho. We're looking forward to getting to know her more and finding out about where she has come from. Secondly, we realise that we are fortunate enough to have a large classroom with a beautiful view over green fields. Another reason for the smiles is that we also had the opportunity to arrange the room as we wanted it. A third reason is this: - Yes, we've enjoyed our first week together.
