Year 6 Term 3 Week 3 Blog

English

This week in English class the children worked on writing their self reflection for their end of the year school report. The children also work on various reading and writing tasks this week in relation to the short stories and articles they were assigned to each day. For next week we will be carrying on with reading articles and short stories to continue to build comprehension and fluency skills.








Maths 

In Maths class this week the children have been working on learning about both 2D and 3D Geometric Shapes. The children took part in a project were they were able to use the Planner 5D website to build a 3D model home. They also had the option to create a model city by using recycled paper, bottles, tissue rolls, etc. from home. The children also had a 3rd option to create different Geometric drawings. For next week the learners will be working on developing their division skills.







UOI


In UOI class this week the children were working on creating their own human migration journey ebooks using Book Creator. For this activity the children were to do a cost of living comparison between Udon Thani, Thailand and another city in the world that they wish to travel to and document this information in their books. For next week the learners will be focusing their attention on the Student Exhibition Project as we are nearing exhibition day.

English This week in English class the children worked on building their inferencing skills. The children were required to look at various slides and quotes and then respond to the inferencing questions relating to those slides and quotes. In addition the children received a list of 100 fun indoor activities that they could choose from to build various skills. For next week the children will work on reading different articles and will respond to their assigned questions.   Maths   In Maths class this week the children have been working on activities relating to converting decimals, percentages and fractions including word problems. The Science of Gardening

Term 3 Week 1 : The Science of Gardening This week we have been excitedly planning how to get the school vegetable garden back into a productive state. We’re tying this into our unit of inquiry on scientific developments. Central Idea : Scientific knowledge is constantly evolving and has an impact on people's lives. During this inquiry students are each taking on various aspects of developing our school vegetable patch. They are forming scientific questions related to the garden and applying a simple form of the scientific process. 1. Ask a question 2. Predict an answer. 3. Create a test to find the answer. (observe, measure, compare) 4. Share the findings. The biggest question on our minds so far is how to keep the soil watered when we are away over the holidays.
