Year 6 Term 3 Week 4

English

This week in English class the children worked on different reading and writing tasks. I have been providing a variety of text types to cater to the different interests that the children may have. For next week the learners will be reading different child-friendly biographies on JK Rowling, Stand Lee and William Shakespeare.






Maths 

In Maths class this week the children have been working on building their skills in division. They have been assigned to different learning tasks each day. For next week the learners will be taking part in a cumulative review assessment task based on place value and numeracy skills.






UOI


In UOI class this week the children have been focusing on the Student Exhibition Project. They have begun working on organising their informational texts and developing their ideas on how they will create an exhibition video to share their knowledge. For next week the learners will continue working on these tasks.







1/2 Term Break Notice: Parents please be aware that next Monday & Tuesday May 18 and 19 the school will be closed for the Term 3 1/2 Term Break. Virtual learning sessions will resume on Wednesday May 20th.

In addition the children received a list of 100 fun indoor activities that they could choose from to build various skills. Geography geniuses

This week we have been continuing on with our unit on migration. In order to do this properly we need to know the world map well. We have given a fair amount of time to learning the names of the oceans and continents. The most enjoyable activity was using Google earth to find the places we are learning about.  We even used 'Google Glasses' to watch 3D clips of far off places too. In our English lessons we have been reading about the migration experiences of young people. Our purpose was to do 'active reading'. This means that we have to think, take notes and talk to someone was we read. In this way, we understand the text more deeply. On Wednesday Our P.E teacher came to share his migration experience with us. He is Brazilian and taught us some basic facts about his country. It developed into a whole geography lesson about Brazil. OUR FIRST WEEK AS YEAR 6

We Are Year Six Welcome to Year 6. Here is our first photograph together. Why were we all smiling so much that day? Well, there are so many reasons. Firstly, we were glad to welcome Moriah, our new classmate from Idaho. We're looking forward to getting to know her more and finding out about where she has come from.  Secondly, we realise that we are fortunate enough to have a large classroom with a beautiful view over green fields. Another reason for the smiles is that we also had the opportunity to arrange the room as we wanted it. A third reason is this: - Yes, we've enjoyed our first week together.
